Betty

I don’t know how many people are familiar with the show Ugly Betty (and if you aren’t then shame on you).
I absolutely loved it, I mean Betty was fucking hilarious, the idea was bloody brilliant. A heroine with thick rimmed glasses and braces- now that’s a plot.
An “ugly” (note the air quotes) girl who went to work for a fashionable magazine. She didn’t fit in (I’m pretty sure everyone knows how that feels). Shows like that aren’t really on, usually tv shows are about pretty people complaining about their lives. With Ugly Betty, I don’t know, I just feel like I could relate. Besides the poncho *face-palm*

I know it may sound stupid to have an emotional attachment to a fictional character but I don’t care.
My all time favourite quote from her-
“No I’m the jerk for thinking that clothes and a new hairdo would make a difference on someone like me.”
To me, I never really saw Betty as ugly, beauty IS in the eye of the beholder and to me she was beautiful. Honestly, she was an inspiration. I think more girls should try to be like Betty because she was a strong, independent woman, who was successful. Yet people still try and be like the models in there.

I’m not going to lie even the superficial characters had there moments. Honestly have you ever heard truer words-
“A word of advice, be who you are, wear what you want, just learn how to run real fast.”
~ Marc St

I even think Betty introduced the idea of blogging to me.
She was a real person; she had bad hair days (a lot of them), she snorted when she laughed, she embarrassed herself (once again, a lot!)
But she also stood up for what she believed in, she had experiences and had morals.
Which is why I refuse to call her ugly.

We Are Ugly

Beauty is only skin deep and that’s why people strive for. However, ugly goes down to the bone. So why is this generation so obsessed with being pretty- and they want to be ugly inside.

It doesn’t matter if you’re pretty, ugly, fat or skinny- at the end of the day- according to society there is still something wrong with you.
Despite this we still can try only to be put to the same position because at the end of the day we are still ugly.

So what? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right? So either we are all ugly or all beautiful. What does it matter were still humans. I’d like to think everyone’s beautiful. Because in some way- believe it or not- we all are beautiful. There is some redeeming quality in us all.

So you know what, fuck society. Fuck what they tell us. All that really matters is what we think.
And if you still think you’re ugly remember this

“I have an important message to deliver to all the cute people all over the world. If you’re out there and you’re cute, maybe you’re beautiful. I just want to tell you somethin’ — there’s more of us UGLY MOTHERFUCKERS than you are, hey-y, so watch out.”
― Frank Zappa

Brothers

“What strange creatures brothers are!”
— Jane Austen

Let him flaunt his youth,
Whilst he still has it,
Let him smile,
Whilst he still has reason,
Let him fight,
Whilst he still can,
Let him be vain,
Whist he still wants to be.

He may get laughed,
He may upset a few,
But just do it,
Before its too late,
And they just become regrets.

I have a brother and sometimes I really want to punch him however other times he really inspires me and makes me feel glad to have him as my brother.

I was just thinking today when do we ever get a chance to think, “wow I have a pretty good life”.I’ve got a pretty amazing brother and I never want him to change (okay, maybe a little bit).
Honestly, I’m truly thankful for him.

If he is passionate about something he will go out and to it, to an extreme. If he’s not then he’s not going to waste his time. I love his determination and willpower. This truly inspires me.

I may call you names and we will fight, and even if I never really say this to you, well I’m saying it here.

I love you, bro. And I really mean this, don’t ever change, you’re already extraordinary and destined for greatness.

Comment below how many siblings you have and what you love about them. Tell me about the people who make you sentimental, I’ll love to read it ^_^

I Hate Hollywood

“If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.”
― Haruki Murakami, Norwegian Wood

Hello fellow randoms,
Warning: I’m kind of going to rant.
Hollywood or film makers, whatever, need to come up with new ideas. They need to come up with their own instead of ruining all my favourite best books. Lets all be honest, they practically ruined twilight, the books were great. The only movie that was good was the last one, the rest sucked. Also it started of this whole weird vampire/werewolf obsession and millions of other fantasy rip offs.

Hunger games- ruined. There were them stupid girls making teams for Peeta and Gale. Like wth?! That was done for twilight and mainly done for the actors (ahem Taylor Lautner). No, you ruined hunger games- not as bad as twilight but still.

They are making a city of bones movie. I watched the trailer and was not impressed so I sure hope the movie is better than the trailer. Otherwise they ruined another great book.

Another book I love is divergent, I read that in like a day and I absolutely love it. Guess what?! There is a divergent film- whoop de freaking doo. Don’t ruin it this time. There is already a hype starting and I hate it. People putting themselves into the groups, when it comes out people are probably going to be like “I’m so bad. I’m dauntless- I’m cool”. Well no. I hate hypes, I refuse to be part of them.

Thinking of making Delirium a film as well. Don’t mess up!

I honestly wouldn’t mind as long as they don’t f*ck them up all the time. If you’re going to make them, do it right.

Comment below and tell me what you think. Feel free to disagree too, if you like when books are made into movies or if you think film makers don’t mess it up. I’d love to hear it 🙂 thanks for reading.

Back to Reality

“I believe that you’ve created a metaphorical universe in which you can express your darkest fears. In one aspect, yes, I believe in ghosts, but we create them. We haunt ourselves, and sometimes we do such a good job, we lose track of reality.”
— Laurie Halse Anderson (Wintergirls)

Reality. That’s it. It’s harsh, cruel but undeniably beautiful. This is where the memories happen, the good times and unfortunately also the bad. It has emotion, feeling, everything to do about anything.

People can be dreamers, realists, optimists, whatever. Overall, there is still the real world.
People can dream. They may never get famous. Or rich. They may never get married. Or have kids.

What’d do you want? Because there are some people who do get it. Even those who don’t, who is to say they are not happy. Maybe those who got what they wanted aren’t happy because they haven’t appreciated it, they’ve never worked for it and always want more.

It’s what you make it, no matter who you are you need an aspiration. Sure for some it’s easier but you still have to try. It would be even worse thinking what if.
Reality isn’t bad, reality is what you make it.

Now honestly what do you want?
I know this is tacky, but I choose happiness.

Perfection

“I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next.
Delicious Ambiguity.”
— Gilda Radner

You’re not perfect. Nobody is and nobody ever will be. So stop trying to be this idea of perfect. Believe me, you’re better off being yourself.

And to everyone who thinks they are perfect. Well, GTFO. But seriously, come on, dude. You can be pretty and popular but you may be a bitch. You can be the perfect friend but that doesn’t make you the perfect daughter/ son.

You may wanna change yourself and you really don’t need to. I know I’m not perfect, not even close but I don’t wish to change. I hate my nose but I’m not going to get surgery. I have messy hair but I’m not going to straighten it everyday (mainly because I don’t wanna be bald by the time I’m 30). There are times when change isn’t so bad. Revise more, join a club, help someone.

I think that all anyone can do is be yourself and hope that’s good enough. Perfection is an idealisation by people who want the impossible, the people who want this fake, materialistic world full of fake people to go with this “perfect” world.
On the way to this self discovery a few people will hurt you along the way but at least you know you’re going somewhere. Grow from this, change the world, make a difference, be happy.

Believe in Something

“If you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything.”
— Malcolm X

If you strip away someone’s beliefs what are they left with? You would be taking their faith, morals, and ultimately their self. Beliefs are what shapes people it makes them who they are. My belief has influenced throughout my life and has taught me so many things. I’m a Muslim and I’m proud. It has helped me to develop all through my life and has showed me that not everything is one sided. There are so many ways to look at something and my religion has taught me this and appreciate it. I write to express myself and I’m not going to let anyone take that away from me.

The reason I’m saying this is because I honestly believe that my beliefs have made me the person I am and I will never regret it.
People discriminate against religions but I honestly don’t believe they have a right to mock someone’s beliefs. If someone believes something what someone else says don’t matter.

I think beliefs mean a lot. It may not be a religion but belief in hope, justice or morals.

Comment in what you believe in and never let anyone say otherwise.

The Power of Words

“She was fascinated with words. To her, words were things of beauty, each like a magical powder or potion that could be combined with other words to create powerful spells.”
— Dean Koontz (Lightning)

I know people a lot of the time talk about the power of words and how it can change a person. It can.
However their words don’t mean anything unless we let them.

Everyone’s been called words; slut, ugly, bitch. At one point I cared what people thought of me, but now I really couldn’t care less.
I guess I’m writing this because today someone called me and I quote “hash tag ugly”and it brought back a memory a few years ago when this guy called me words and I cared, of course I fought back but most of the time it still hurt.

I’m writing this for a weird way of venting. I’m not the kind of person who likes discussing everything with a person because I don’t want the pity or the sympathy. People can tell you that they understand but they don’t and if they have it worse than you then you don’t want to bother them with your problems.

Behind these words are cowards- and they are truly pathetic people. I guess if your at a stage when you feel upset just think these people are pathetic people and you sure as hell don’t need their approval and honestly don’t want it.

You’re great the way you are and don’t need to change (tacky, I know, but true).

Who inspires you?

“Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.”
— Marilyn Monroe

People with stories. People with a terrible past. People who live.
Writing has made me wonder who inspires you? Maybe a tv character, an athlete, a celebrity, anyone. Some of them I don’t understand, some I do.

The people who inspire me are my family. They are great people, they will be behind me always and despite everything. They haven’t had everything but they rise above it. They are fighters.

Really, the smallest things can influence me.
These guys on YouTube was another thing inspired me to also write these blogs. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s there videos they’re amazing. It’s the sort of videos you could watch over and over again. (If you’re wondering- these people are called Wong fu productions- you should check them out.)

Even with the smallest things that inspire me, my family always have some influence. We all have it- my mum, dad, brother and sometimes that aunt who you realise is so brave, my grandma who you just love and has always been strong, that immature uncle who can just make you laugh.

Now, who inspires you? Leave a comment below 🙂

Life Goes On

“He who opens a school door, closes a prison.”
— Victor Hugo

I’ve have kind of been experiencing writers block lately so I really don’t know what to write about. I decided I’ll just talk about school.
It comes across like I really hate school- I do hate it but sometimes there are them moments that really do make it worth it. The memories. The experiences.

Ugh, gosh back to school. Half terms over and so I’m back to that hellhole. I hate school, everyone’s too fake or trying so hard to be fake, they don’t realise what terrible people they are. Everyone else is either too judgmental or sucking up to the so-called “populars” to care.
To me it just feels like you and everyone else. Even when you finally let someone in and they do something that makes you wish you didn’t. People will always let you down. People are perfect but no one is- as long as they put up with your flaws, you should put up with theirs. I think friendship is loving them despite this.

Whenever you say to someone you can’t wait to get out of school they say that you will miss it and it really is the best time of your life. Alright, face it times have changed and I’m not you. Sure, you will miss your friends, but memories have been made and now it’s gone. The people who really meant anything are still with you and will be.
What else is there to miss, the cliques? The constant pressure? The people telling you that you’re not good enough?

For some people this is truly the best time of your life, which is truly depressing. So get your bags ready and relish in the future disappointment.
How sad do you have to be to think that the best times of your life is one moment. The best times are never truly over. You go to school to get a better life, it isn’t your life. It defines you but in no way does it become you.
After school feel free to look back at these times but never wish to go back. There is always ways to make new memories and live a life.

This is a cynical view but its my view. Maybe one day it won’t but for now it is.
